Thread: Recommendation for new strings?

  1. #11
Try a set of Elixir strings. They might take a little getting used to because of the anti rust coating on the strings but not only do they sound great they last last for ages. You won't regret it !!!!

I personally hate Elixirs. Love them on acoustic guitars, hate them on electrics. Sound is too bright and never goes to that sweet mellow tone the usual strings do after about a week of usage. But I guess that depends on what the style of music demands.

I love elixirs. Still experimenting with some different brands as I haven't played them all. Quite impressed with RotoSound recently. But elixirs are still far and away my favourite.

I just placed an order with Circle K strings. You order directly from them at their website. Have not tried them before but talked to someone who emphatically sang their praises. One interesting thing is they keep them straight and don't package them coiled up. Their string gauges are a bit interesting too.

Is this the brand everyone using ERG's seems to use?

Yeah I've also heard they're the brand to go to for ERGs as they supply really long strings so they work on neck through baritone guitars, etc. But that's nuts about them staying straight in the packaging... they'd have to be shipped in really really long, thin boxes. o_O

They are packaged straight inside a long plastic sleeve. They are shipped in an oversized square package and are, how to describe this...sort of loosely "folded" over themselves to fit inside. Here's a picture I found online.

I've tried a few different string brands over the years but keep comign back to D'addario. I'd be interested to try Elixr as I haven't yet, but honestly souldn't complain about staying with my tried and tested D's.
