    Sanding back a Pro finish.

Ok guys I'm gonna be doing a bit of a project at home. Some of you will shake your heads in disagreement...buuuuuuut my mind is made up haha.

So my Pro Black Horus HGS is going to be a Natural Walnut HGS and I'm looking for as many hints and tips as I can gather to help me with the sanding/finishing. Gabriel has given me some pointers on the types of oils I'll need to get it as similar to the Oiled finishes they do from factory.

So yeah hit me. What are the do's and dont's ? I've got access to most tools (hand or power) I think I'll need.

    Cheers guys

The pro finishes seems to be thin layer so an orbital sander or even by hand should work.

You'll definitely need lots of patience when sanding around the horns.

Otherwise, enjoy the process and make sure to upload some pics!

Man, I have been tempted to strip the Pro white from my Orbit - such a thin finish hand sanding would be easy enough.

When I stripped the yellow from my old Horus it was a far easier task than a lot of others I have done in the past - nowhere near as arduous when compared to something like a Charvel.

I would say just be patient, have everything from 120 to 1200 or higher then once your happy with the finish wipe the oil on with a rag and buff with 0000 grade wire wool between coats. I use a tung/Boiled linseed mix with a small amount mineral turps - works for me.

Well slightly late reply but I got it finished after tinkering around for a month or two. Haven't taken any decent pic's at all so will do that one day.
Kept the sides with the pro finish after a suggestion from a mate. Just gives it a bit of character and definition I think. Not to mention I didn't have to sand around the horns.
It looks really nice. Used a gunstock oil for the finish and was exactly what I wanted. Cheers Gabriel.
